Mike Eilts

President & CEO

Michael Eilts received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in Meteorology and an MBA from the University of Oklahoma. He is also a Harvard Senior Executive Fellow. Before founding WDT in April, 2000, Mike worked at the National Severe Storms Laboratory (NSSL) for 18 years, the last 7 as Assistant Director.
Mike has written over 75 publications on subjects in Severe Storms, Doppler Weather Radar, automated severe weather algorithms, nowcasting and aviation weather.

Dave VandenHeuvel

Senior Vice President

Dave has over 30 years of weather experience including 23 years in the United States Air Force. He now leads WDT’s Enterprise Services Division providing software products, meteorological services, and decision support to WDT’s enterprise customer base.
Prior to joining WDT in 2010, David was the CEO of IPS MeteoStar, Inc. in Denver CO, a meteorological software company.

Matt Gaffner

Business Development

Matt has been with WDT since May of 2006 and oversees the daily operations of all weather verification products and services. Matt’s experience with weather data, GIS, and data delivery mechanisms allows him to work with customers to create custom weather verification products and services to meet customers’ unique needs.
Matt earned a B.S. in Meteorology and Minor in Mathematics from the University of Oklahoma.

Dax Cochran

Sales Manager

Dax Cochran has been with WDT for 3 years. With 13 years of experience in sales and software solutions, Dax leads the sales effort for WDT‘s WeatherOps team providing technology and professional forecasting solutions while supporting WDT’s Weather Verification sales focus.

Mary Long

Director, Weather Verification

Mary has been with WDT since July 2004, initially as a student intern, then hired to a full time position with WDT’s Weather Verification Division in May 2007. Mary manages the daily operations and staff responsible for the creation of all weather verification reports. She is our key technical representative on all of iMapWeather Forensics’ technologies, services, and products.
Mary obtained a B.S. in Meteorology from the University of Oklahoma.

Paul Kamis

Meteorologist/Software Engineer

Paul began working with WDT in July 2012. Paul works with other scientists at WDT to continually improve existing products, as well as create unique weather verification solutions.
Prior to joining WDT, Paul worked as a Data Analyst with the Atmospheric Radiation Measurements Climate Research Facility and earned a B.S. in Meteorology and a Minor in Computer Science at the University of Oklahoma.

Elizabeth Davidson


Elizabeth began working with WDT in June of 2013. She is a pivotal part of our team of meteorologists responsible for creating and distributing weather verification reports for specific events.
Elizabeth graduated with a M.S. in Meteorology from the University of Oklahoma in May 2013, and earned a B.S. in Meteorology and Minor in Mathematics from the University of Oklahoma.

Richard Carpenter, PhD.

Dr. Richard L. Carpenter, Jr., joined WDT in June 2000 as a founding employee, and is currently Vice President of Numerical Modeling. Dr. Carpenter earned his Ph.D. in Meteorology from the University of Oklahoma in 1994 where his dissertation, "Entrainment and Detrainment in Numerically Simulated Cumulus Congestus Clouds," received OU’s Outstanding Dissertation Award in the area of Engineering and Physical Sciences. Dr. Carpenter also earned an M.S. in Meteorology from OU in 1989 and a B.S. with Honors in Atmospheric Science from the University of California at Davis in 1985. He has been a Certified Consulting Meteorologist since 2004.
Prior to joining WDT, Dr. Carpenter worked as a senior research scientist for the Center for Analysis and Prediction of Storms (CAPS) at OU.

Bill Conway

Bill Conway joined WDT in November 2000 as a founding employee and is currently Sr. Vice President of International Systems. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Meteorology (with honors) at Metropolitan State College in Denver, Colorado and his Master of Science in Meteorology from the University of Oklahoma. His masters thesis was "The Role of the Differential Reflectivity Column in Embryo Production and Hail Growth".
Bill’s background includes six years as a research associate at the prestigious National Severe Storms Laboratory (NSSL) and four years as a forecast meteorologist with Aeromet, Inc. at the Kwajalien Missile Range in the Marshall Islands.

DeWayne Mitchell

DeWayne has been with WDT since 2000 and has contributed to the development and implementation of unique software tools to identify and diagnose severe and hazardous weather. Prior to coming to WDT, DeWayne spent 12 years at the National Severe Storms Laboratory where he conducted applied research and developed software to identify and detect severe weather using Doppler radar. DeWayne earned both his B.S. and M.S. degrees (M.S. Thesis Title: Observations of Convection Initiation During CaPE 1991: A Case Study.) in meteorology from the University of Oklahoma in 1990 and 1997, respectively. DeWayne is one of the principal founders of WDT‘s weather verification unit which is responsible for the development and application of advanced weather assessment techniques.

Brent Shaw

Brent L. Shaw is a native of Kansas City, Missouri and lifelong weather enthusiast, he attended the University of Kansas earning an Air Force commission along with a BS degree in Atmospheric Science in 1990. He subsequently served as a weather officer in the USAF from 1991 to 2004. During this time he provided operational meteorological support to two fighter wings, earned an MS degree in Atmospheric Science from Colorado State University, served as the Meteorological Satellite Programs Manger for the Air Force Weather Agency (AFWA), and developed numerous applications within AFWA’s Meteorological Models Branch and Technology Exploitation Brach.
Since 2004, Brent has utilized his experience and passion for meteorological “research-to-operations” in the private sector, joining WDT in 2007, where he has led development of complex meteorological systems for a wide variety of clients and applications around the world.
